Holland
What do you think of when you think of The Netherland? Wooden shoes, tulips, cheese, or windmills? Perhaps you don't even know where The Netherlands is located. Does the country "Holland" sound familiar? While our country is more well known by the name Holland, the provinces of North and South Holland really only form two of our country's twelve provinces.
Statistics
The Netherlands is 41,785 square km in size with thirty percent of its land below sea-level and one sixth of its land covered by water. Approximately 16 million people live here, including 1 million in Amsterdam and 1 million in Rotterdam. A densly populated country, ninety one percent of all people live in cities. While ninety percent of our citizens are Dutch by birth, the other ten percent are mostly from Morocco, Turkey and former Dutch colonies Suriname and Indonesia. If you compare The Netherlands with other countries, our economy is prospering. There is little unemployment and a large social plan for people who are not able to work. Politically we are also very stable.
