HeartBeat Europe
I
n the past it was the continent of Europe that sent its inhabitants around the world to share the gospel. But now this time is past: Africans, Brazilians and Koreans now come to Europe to spread the good news. Europe itself has become a missionary ground. The number of Christians in Europe decreases every year and the influence of the Church and Christians in society is becoming less and less. Imagine that 80% of those living in Paris have never read a Bible. Rome has the most impressive cathedrals built to the glory of God, but now they are empty and only filled with the sound of noisy tourists. These are buildings from ages past where everything is for sale, except a Bible. People live without God and don’t think they need Him. He is an outdated concept, overtaken by another false reality.
Hunger For More
It brings into mind images of Jesus who sees the masses living in each city throughout Europe:
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9: 36)
From the human perspective Europe seems to be a lost cause. The decline seems irreversible. Yet we know that God’s heart is still beating for Europe. Then so must ours. We, Athletes in Action The Netherlands, will not accept seeing this continent without God. We know that God wants to restore people and bring them back to Himself so that they can experience the hope and life, true life, that we have found. It is our prayer that in the coming years God will once again be a living reality in the lives of people. As God’s heart is beating for Europe so is ours. Will you help us move the city together for His Kingdom!
